The very popular NSW Fire and Rescue Open Day is on again this year. Kids love visiting their local fire station. The day is jam-packed with events. You can watch firefighting demonstrations, climb aboard a fire truck, find out about fire safety and meet the firefighters who make it happen.
Your kids will see the fire truck ladder in operation and have the chance to explore the whole fire station. The kids can check out the equipment, see the fire station’s pole and put on some safety gear.
Visitors can also speak to firefighters first-hand about fire safety in the home, including how to install and maintain smoke alarms and how to develop a home escape plan to ensure they can quickly and safely escape a fire.
Usually, most fire stations are open. However, due to COVID19 the Lane Cove fire station and Crows Nest Fire Station will not be open.
We took Miss ITC a few years ago and even got to see a fire truck leaving the fire station to attend to a fire emergency. It is pretty exciting seeing the firefighters spring into action and depart (we later found out it was a false alarm).
The day is so much fun that it is worth going a little bit further to access a Fire Station that is holding an Open Day.
The Three closest fire stations are:
7a Pittwater Road,
Gladesville NSW 2111
DRUMMOYNE Fire Station
29 – 35 Lyons Road,
Drummoyne NSW 2047
16 – 218 Blaxland Road,
Ryde NSW 2112
If your kids love fire trucks, this is a must do event.
We regularly see the Lane Cove firefighters in Lane Cove – this was one of our most shared and commented on photos (taken a few years ago)
