Welcome to our Lane Cove Local News week in review, where we tell you what has happened over the last seven days in Lane Cove.

This week, the big news is that Bluey is coming to The Canopy as part of Lane Cove’s Christmas in Lane Cove.  The bad news is that the event has sold out.

Lane Cove Election – 4 December 2021 – Meet the Candidates Forum

On 23 November 2021, ITC held a very informative Meet the Candidates Zoom session for Lane Cove Central Ward. We were asked to record the session for those who could not make it, and you can watch it here on our Youtube channel.

All Candidates listed number one on the ticket were given the opportunity to attend the Forum.

IGA Greenwich Positive COVID19 Case – 22 November 2021.

Greenwich IGA has been advised that a positive COVID19 case attended their store on 22 November 2021. If you were at the store on Monday go to your Service NSW app and check your history – if you were there at the same time it will be noted on your check in history.
There have been 11 COVID Cases in Greenwich since 1 November 2021 (Greenwich is part of the Lane Cove Council Area and there have only been 5 other cases in the rest of Lane Cove)

Riverview College Closes After Positive COVID19 Cases

Riverview college posted the following this week on their website.

Set out below are details of the COVID19 cases recorded in our LGA, which includes all suburbs with a 2066 postcode and 2065 postcode (which includes Greenwich and other suburbs not in the LGA). These stats do not include that part of Lane Cove North located in Willoughby City Council (for those who live on the Mowbray school side of Mowbray Road).

The tables show the location of residence by Local Government Area (LGA) or local health district (LHD) of locally acquired COVID-19 cases in the last four weeks. It is based on the date the person first developed symptoms. When no date of symptom onset is available (it is either under investigation by public health staff or the person tested positive without showing symptoms), the date of the positive test is used. Infections are not always acquired in the place of residence as people often travel outside their area for many reasons (e.g. work, school and shopping). Cases without an NSW residential address and people who were exposed interstate or overseas are not shown. Case counts may vary over time due to ongoing investigations and case reviews.*Includes all locally acquired cases (known and unknown source)

Active Cases in Lane Cove Council Area

The data below the number of active cases  (active cases are cases where a person is in isolation and is being managed by NSW Health).   Note NSW has changed the way it is reporting cases – see notes below.

 

Vaccination Stats

Lane Cove has 91.9% of its eligible vaccination double jabbed.  It looks like we will not make the 95% as vaccination rates have slowed significantly.

For everyone in NSW 12 years and older, these vaccines are now available:
  • Moderna (Spikevax) – for 12 years+ from pharmacies
  • Pfizer (Comirnaty) – for 12 years+ from pharmacies, GPs, and NSW Health vaccination clinics
  • AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) – for 18 years+ from pharmacies, GPs, and NSW Health vaccination clinics.
If you have any questions about which vaccine you should receive, speak to your GP.
There are appointments available this week in Lane Cove for AZ, Pfizer and Moderna.

Harris Farm

Due to COVID19 delays, Lane Cove Central and Harris Farm will open in early 2022.
Harris Farm will be the lead tenant in the complex known as Lane Cove Central.
There will be some speciaity stores in the complex, and there are limited leasing opportunities for a mix of specialiy stores, eateries, medical, fitness and essential services with only 5-7 specialty retail spaces available ranging from 55 sqm* to 365 sqm*.

Support Local

From time to time on Lane Cove Chat, ITC members ask for electricity retailers/supplier recommendations and green or environmentally aware electricity retailers. Some readers have recommended Powershop for their green credentials. Yesterday Shell announced it will be buying Powershop.
If you want to change electricity suppliers and want to keep it local – check out Bright Spark Power. They are owned by a Lane Cove Local who supports ITC. They have just announced a partnership with Squash NSW and will be putting an Electric Vehicle charger in the Thornleigh Squash Centre.
ITC is now with Bright Spark Power. Initially, I thought it would be a big hassle to change suppliers (which is why I have not changed banks or telcos, and I should). However, the process was so simple.

Incidents and Accidents

On Friday, 19 November 2021, a motorcyclist was involved in a single-vehicle accident in Riverview.  Ambulance crew were sent by helicopter, and the closest place to land was on the Riverview College Oval.

 

On 21 November (a rainy night), there was another accident on the Mowbray Road bend.

In the Cove is now nine years old, and since we have been around, we have constantly received complaints about the number of accidents on Mowbray Road Lane Cove North.  There is a bend in the road near an unoccupied site that used to be a Caltex Service Station, and it is an accident hotspot.

Mowbray Road forms the boundary between Lane Cove Council and Willougby City Council.  Residents on the Mowbray Road Public School side have received a letter from Willougby City Council advising roadworks will be taking place in January 2022.  Read More Here.
