Lane Cove Stats from the 2021 Census

The stats for the 2021 Census have recently been released, so of course we checked out the Lane Cove results, and bring you some of the highlights.

In the 2021 Census, there were 39,438 people in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas). Of these 49.2% were male and 50.8% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 0.3% of the population

Lane Covians

The median age of people in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas) was 37 years. Children aged 0 – 14 years made up 18.2% of the population and people aged 65 years and over made up 14.3% of the population.

Of people in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas) aged 15 years and over, 41.5% were married and 7.9% were either divorced or separated.

The most common ancestries in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas) were English, Australian, Chinese, Irish and Scottish.

In Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas), 32.9% of people had both parents born in Australia and 49.1% of people had both parents born overseas.

The most common responses for religion in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas) were , Catholic 24.7% and Anglican 10%.  However, 46.2% of Lane Cove residents had no religious affiliations or did not state a religious affiliation.

In Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas), 67.9% of people only spoke English at home. Other languages spoken at home included Mandarin 5.5%, Cantonese 3.5%, Spanish 1.5%, and Persian (excluding Dari) 1.4%.

Of the families in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas), 47.5% were couple families with children, 40.1% were couple families without children and 11.1% were one parent families.

Lane Cove has a culture of volunteering and 17.9% of people aged over 15 living in the Lane Cove Local Government Area volunteer.

Of occupied private dwellings in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas), 27.8% were owned outright, 32.6% were owned with a mortgage and 30.5% were rented.

In Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas), 48.5% of occupied private dwellings had one registered motor vehicle garaged or parked at their address, 31.5% had two registered motor vehicles and 9.5% had three or more registered motor vehicles.

The stats above are the first of three census data releases. In October, the ABS will release information about education and employment and travel to work.

Early next year the ABS will release location-specific socio-economic information and estimates of homelessness.
