Queen Elizabeth II State Funeral – How You Can Honour the Queen in Lane Cove

    The official 10-day mourning period is over, and the Queen will be laid to rest in London on Monday, 19 September 2022 (AEST).

    The Funeral service will take place at Westminister Abbey and will be attended by members of the Royal Family, foreign dignitaries and honoured guests,

    London will be packed with hundreds of thousands of British locals and tourists expected to pay their respects to the United Kingdom’s longest-reigning monarch.

    It’s expected to be one of the most watched events in recent history as millions worldwide will watch via television, youtube or other streaming services.

    How to Watch the Queen’s Funeral

    Lane Cove Council has put together a programme honouring the Queen by inviting locals to leave flowers and sign a condolence book. On the giant screen at The Canopy, Lane Cove Council will also broadcast a documentary, and the Queen’s funeral lives at The Canopy on the big screen.

    Watch A Documentary About  the Queen – 6:45 pm – The Canopy

    Lane Cove locals can watch the documentary “The Queen in Australia 1954” on the big screen at The Canopy.

    This feature film is the first coloured documentary capturing the first visit of a reigning monarch to Australia in 1954.

    The film was shot by 16 camera operators, capturing her visits to each state capital and many regional areas over her two-month stay.

    Highlights include the arrival of the Royal Navy ship SS Gothic into Sydney Harbour, the Queen opening Parliament in Canberra, attending a cricket test in Adelaide, horse races at Flemington and exhibitions by schoolchildren in several cities. The result is a remarkable and revealing insight into Australia in the 1950s.

    Watch The Funeral – At Home 

    The official funeral service will begin at 8.00 pm AEST and will run for about one hour – scheduled to finish at 8.55 pm.

    The funeral will be covered by Australia’s free to air tv channels. However, the ABC TV coverage will be commercial-free from the time they start their broadcast.

    If you are watching at home, the official proceeding starts at 7.35 pm AEST when the Queen’s casket is moved from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey, arriving at 7.52 pm AEST.

    King Charles III, members of the royal family, and the King’s household will walk behind the gun carriage transporting the Queen’s coffin.

    The funeral service starts at 8 pm and ends at 8.55 pm AEST.

    The Sovereign’s Piper will play a Lament, and The Archbishop of Canterbury will pronounce the Blessing. The National Anthem will be sung after the Service after the two-minute silence.

    A Private Burial will take place in The King George VI Memorial Chapel later that evening, conducted by the Dean of Windsor.

    The Queen is to be buried together with The Duke of Edinburgh.

    Thursday 22 September 2022 – A National Day of Mourning

    Australia will observe a National Day of Mourning and a National public holiday on Thursday, 22 September 2022.

    National Memorial Service – Canberra –  11.00 am

    A National Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, 22 September 2022, at Parliament House in Canberra.

    One minute of silence will be observed nationwide at 11 am on Thursday, 22 September.

    Lane Cove

    Thursday 22 September, 8:00 am – 1:00 pm (public holiday): Lane Cove Locals may leave flowers and sign the condolence book at The Canopy.

    Condolence Books

    Lane Cove Locals will also be able to sign the Lane Cove Council condolence book at the Lane Cove Library. The books will be sent to Buckingham Palace and archived by the Commonwealth. They may be displayed at its national institutions, forming part of the lasting record of Australia’s close relationship with The Queen over many decades. They will be able to do this on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday this week.
