For the last couple of years, Lane Cove Council has been holding seminars aimed at residents who have been made redundant or are having a hard time getting a job. The workshops are called Get That Job and are well attended.
Deepika Nand participated in the workshop, and this is his story.
Navigating a New Path: Finding Success in Australia with the “Get That Job” Workshop
Moving from Fiji to Australia after getting married was a whirlwind of excitement, anticipation, and a touch of anxiety. It marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life, but it also came with the daunting task of finding a job in a foreign land. This journey, filled with uncertainties, became a success story thanks to the invaluable support and guidance I received from the “Get That Job” workshop program.
When I first arrived in Australia, I felt lost. I didn’t know where to start my job search. So, I turned to the internet and attended various workshops, one of which turned out to be a game-changer – the “Get That Job” program. Under the expert guidance of Mike, a seasoned career coach, I embarked on a transformative journey.
Mike’s program took me step by step through the process of building a resume that resonated with Australian employers. He boosted my confidence, helping me navigate the unfamiliar job market and guiding me towards the right path to pursue my passion. Mike’s mentorship was instrumental in transforming my apprehension into self-assuredness.
Beyond the practical skills, the program fostered a sense of belonging. The Monday coffee group, a part of the program, allowed me to connect with people from all corners of the world who shared similar struggles in carving out careers in Australia. I vividly remember receiving a video from my coffee group just minutes before job interview. Their heartfelt words of encouragement bolstered my confidence and reinforced the sense of belonging to a group that genuinely cared about my success.
One of the standout aspects of the “Get That Job” program was the focus on interview coaching. After countless unsuccessful job applications, I was on the verge of giving up. Mike introduced the concept of direct marketing, which transformed my approach. I stopped relying solely on online applications and started building my network by attending career expos and actively seeking connections. Mike’s one-on-one coaching enabled me to excel in interviews, and I secured a job with just one interview.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend the “Get That Job” program to newcomers and Australians alike who are facing the daunting task of finding a job. Whether you’re struggling with interview nerves or simply don’t know where to start, this program is a flare of hope that can open doors to your career. It provides not only practical skills but also a supportive community that understands the challenges of starting anew in a foreign country. Thanks to the “Get That Job” program, I’ve found success and fulfilment in the Australian workforce, and you can too.
