Have You Ever Wanted a Job as Santa Claus? A Lane Cove Local Can Help You

Sophie Ludke is a Lane Cove Local and Motif Dance Productions managing director.

Motif Dance Productions is a Lane Cove-based entertainment company providing entertainment for corporate events, product launches, music videos and events throughout Australia, and they recruit Santas for the Christmas Season.  We asked Sophie about recruiting Santas and what skills you need to be Santa.

Recruiting Santas is Very Niche – How Did You Get into The Santa Recruitment Business?

My client approached me to be the NSW state manager for Myer Santaland due to previous work. We supply Santas to Myer and also corporate and private events for Christmas parties.

We also recruit Mrs Santa, and elves and sometimes people want Mr. Grinch.  We will find someone for the job if it is a Christmas-related character.

What Does It Take to Be a Good Santa?

Bringing the magic of Christmas takes a fun, jolly, reliable man who loves bringing smiles to both children’s and parents’ faces.

Santa needs to be ready for anything from groups of 30 people in one photo, tiny newborn babies, kids asking for siblings or just not wanting to leave Santa.  Of course, there are also Santa rejections – when a child does not want to go near Santa, even though their parents have waited patiently in line.

How Does Someone Train to Be a Santa?

We have an afternoon of in-person training where our whole team gets together and learns everything about Santaland.

At the training session, we provide different scenarios you may encounter, how to stay in character, how to dress and work as team with your elf helper and photographer.

My advice is to always try to stay in the magical jolly character at all times and remember your elf is there to help.

I am also always on hand for any questions any time.

We have shifts every day from 11th November -24th December 2023!

A santa can work as many days a week as they like  (for example 5 days or 2 days a week). Shifts range from 4 hrs – 8 hrs depending on the Santa and location.

How can Lane Cove Locals get involved?

If you would like to be Santa or an Elf, email me at [email protected] with a photo of yourself and any relevant experience. You don’t have to have experience to be an elf or Santa.

What Other Services Does Your Company Provide?

I hire professional dancers, create costuming and choreograph for all aspects of entertainment. Our work is mainly for corporate events, promotional events, product launches or awards nights.

How Long Have You Lived in Lane Cove?

I bought an apartment nearly 5 years ago!

What Is Your Favourite Thing To Do In Lane Cove?

I love The Canopy. It’s so family-friendly. I’m always bumping into someone I know, grabbing a coffee and letting my little one run around and play.

What is your favourite place for coffee in Lane Cove?

I love Lil Lane for coffee or Story.
