Lane Cove Locals
Lane Cove local Dan, from On The Job Plumbing, took a workplace accident in 2019 and created a life-saving product for the industry.
Picture this: you place your high-pressure water jetting hose down the drain like you do each day, only to find that this day is different. The hose backfires and hits you square in the eye. This dreaded scenario happened to Dan, who lost his right eye completely.
He was losing the fight but was brought back to life twice in the someone’s Room. He spent a painful six weeks in the hospital and succumbed to months of rehabilitation and countless surgeries to reconstruct his face and eye socket. Everyday tasks such as driving a vehicle and pouring a cup of coffee had to be relevant now that he had lost his eye.
From the confines of his hospital bed, he realised that this fateful day could have easily been prevented if there had been some safety device. But nothing worthwhile was on the market then.
His innate drive to help others sparked a vision to prevent further accidents that could cost someone’s life. In addition, a keen interest in design and construction made Dan realise there had to be a better way than jetting without a safety plate.
And just like that, The Bash was born! A jetting safety plate is heavy enough to prevent the hose from backfiring out from the drain and causing injury to not only the operator but to persons who may be near high-pressure jetting operations.
Today, his long-awaited invention (AWD – Anti Withdrawal Device) is mentioned in the AS4233 Australian/New Zealand High-Pressure Water Jetting Standards and recommended for all jetting activities. Have a look https://www.jettersafetyplate.com.au
