Burns Bay Dance Studios Joins National “Dance for Sick Kids” Challenge in 2025

Get dancing to help families with seriously ill children

Burns Bay Dance Studios (BBDS), a much-loved part of the Lane Cove community, is once again stepping up to make a difference through movement. From 12–18 May 2025, BBDS is taking part in Dance for Sick Kids, a nationwide challenge that raises funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities Greater Western Sydney (RMHC GWS).

Their goal? To raise $10,000 to help families with seriously ill or injured children stay together and close to the care their child needs.

What is Dance for Sick Kids?

Dance for Sick Kids is a seven-day dance challenge held during National Families Week. Participants all over Australia commit to dancing daily to raise funds that support families doing it tough while their child receives medical treatment—often far from home.

From professional studios to backyard boogiers, everyone is welcome—no matter your age or dance level. You choose how long you want to dance each day (from 30 minutes to 2 hours) and raise funds by sharing your progress with friends and family.

“It’s a fun way to move, connect and give back—plus you’ll be helping to provide accommodation, meals and support for families during their toughest times,” said Chelsea, owner of Burns Bay Dance Studios.

The Disco For a Good Cause

Every year the Burns Bay Dance team hosts a disco at the Lane Cove dance studio. If you have kids over 5, you can book them in and enjoy a few hours of peace. Under 5’s are welcomed with a parent. Mums, dads, grandparents are all welcomed to attend and there will be some refreshments available. Money raised from the tickets will go straight into the studio’s total for DFSK. Did we mention there will be FACE PAINTING as well as games & prizes? BOOK here

A Personal Mission for BBDS

For Chelsea, this cause hits close to home. Her daughter Amelie was born prematurely and spent time in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and her nephew Matthew was diagnosed with a brain tumour. These difficult experiences inspired her to rally the BBDS community and show families facing medical crises that they’re not alone.

“We’ve felt the fear and uncertainty that comes with serious illness. This is our way of dancing with purpose—of giving back to the charities that give so much,” she said.
