After an incredible 37 years in Lane Cove, Minas (also known as Michael) from Lane Cove Shoe Repairs is hanging up his tools. With only about two weeks before he closes, now’s the time to pop into the Lane Cove Arcade to say goodbye and thank him for decades of service.

From shoes , handbags and the countless keys he has cut for locals, Minas/Michael has been a true part of the fabric of our community.

Thank you, Minas/Michael – you will be missed.

Milestones

Pure Flowers

Congratulations to the team at Pure Flowers, who this year celebrated 30 years in Lane Cove. The store and Baker’s Delight were the first businesses to open in their arcade in mid 1995.

The store opened as Ellen’s Flowers and was rebranded to Pure Flowers. Some customers still remember the original owners Ellen, then Theresa.

Ludmila and Elen have owned the business for 13 years and are the third owners.

Ludmila & Elen  said  “Over the years the team has created thousands of bouquets, delivered many messages of love, friendship and care and designed countless designs for life’s special moments which we have seen brighten so many faces. That is why we love doing what we do – surprising and delighting people by spreading joy through beautiful flowers.”

Pure Flowers is located in the arcade, 23-25 Burns Bay Rd, Lane Cove, between Baker’s Delight, Guzman & Gomez and The Cakeman

The Foot Group

The Foot Group celebrated 25 years in Lane Cove in September 2025.  The Foot Group told ITC:

“We are so proud to be part of this wonderful community for a quarter of a decade! We are grateful to our loyal patients, many of whom have been with us from the beginning. Our involvement with Lane Cove Public School, the Lane Cove Fun Run, Lane Cove Netball Club and Lane Cove Football Club has helped deepen our ties and commitment here, helping us become a Lane Cove success story.

Starting out in the Central Arcade as Lane Cove Foot Clinic, Andrew worked by himself until we moved to bigger premises at 90 Longueville Road.

In 2010, when we opened a clinic in Brookvale, we changed our name to The Foot Group.

We moved to our current location at 152-154 Longueville Road in 2018 and plan to be here for many years to come.

We noticed this thank-you post on Women & Children’s First’s Instagram Page, where they acknowledge the donation drive by The Foot Group Lane Cove and Brookvale.

To celebrate, The Foot Group gave back through Gather for Good, supporting women and children as they rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic abuse. Over August and September, they collected essential items for families in refuges and transitional housing – and for every item donated, they matched it.

What Hearing Care

WHAT The Hearing Centre at 174 Longueville Road celebrated 25 years of helping locals hear better and stay connected. Founded in 2000 by audiologist Damian O’Connor, the independent clinic offers hearing checks, wax removal, hearing aids, and custom earplugs — always with friendly, personalised service.

📍 Lane Cove’s own hearing specialists, right in the heart of the village.

Burns Bay Bookery

On Monday, 1st September  2025, marked a big milestone for one much-loved local business – The Burns Bay Bookery.

The Bookery celebrated 10 years of selling excellent books to the Lane Cove community.

Over the past decade, they’ve been more than just a bookshop. They’ve:

  • Supported our schools by participating in fundraising events
  • Backed local authors, proudly featuring their work on the shelves.
  • Supported ITC year after year so we can continue to provide free news and information to the local community
  • Created a warm community hub, filled with many laughs, many chats and of course – many books.
  • Given us a laugh with their creative blackboard messages

It hasn’t always been easy – they’ve weathered floods, construction disruptions and a pandemic – but they’ve continued to serve Lane Cove with heart and resilience.

The Bookery is run by local people who love their books and love sharing their knowledge about books, and if you’re looking to support a local business that has supported Lane Cove for years, this is one of the best options around.

Some of the Bookery’s customers queried the camel reference on Monday’s blackboard sign, and staff were quick to supply the explanation:

“…for reasons that now escape me, there was a fully grown, fully bedecked camel in the plaza. Straight out of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ – what a fuss it caused! I mean, it wasn’t alone, it hadn’t wandered up to the plaza for a coffee, but people came in droves to see it…we took advantage and the most popular blackboard sign was instantly created! The camel didn’t come to The Burns Bay Bookery…..silly camel!”

Of course, ITC was well aware of the camel.

Who would have thought you would see a camel in Lane Cove Plaza, but when Gelatissimo Lane Cove launched camel milk gelato, that is precisely what happened.

It’s the way to go if you are like ITC and love recycling your cans and bottles. It is so quick and convenient to have your containers sorted and money in your account. No more pushing bottles and cans into machines.

ITC has a bin at home which, when it is full, Lane Cove Return and Earn picks up, processes and deposits the earnings in our account. We then donate the money to The Lane Cove Toy Library to purchase toys, or to The Sydney Library of Things to acquire items for the library.

Congratulations to Lane Cove Earn and Return,  ITC was there on your opening day.

We look forward to being able to return wine bottles in 2027!

Alternative learning during both term and holidays

Step into a world of wonder at The W.O.W. Project—a radically alternative, all-ages creative studio—where everyone is free to create, explore, and imagine in ways they’ve never experienced before.

Development of creative you starts from an early age. @the W.O.W. project we believe that learning is not about sitting down and repeating similar exercises over and over again, it is not about memorising. Learning is about discoveries, being engaged, questioning the world and meeting the aspects of yourself one might spend a long time searching for otherwise in traditional settings.

Come and find out that playing is the best form of learning. The latest scientific research suggests that sensory and messy play are crucial for the development of a young brain as more than a million neural connections form every second when activated.Give your little one the best chance in life without the stress that is associated with messy play at home.

Parents are welcome to any of our classes. We encourage this especially during the Super Sensory & Very Messy sessions. Bonding is supported through having fun together doing things you would love to be doing but would never dare to do at home! At least not to THAT extend!

We also have coffee and tea here + you are guaranteed to meet other families, form friendships at the space filled with joy, laughter and good times!
