Power Outage Cripples Weekend Trade For Local Businesses
Between late Thursday, 19th, and late Sunday, 22nd, February 2026, there was a significant and prolonged power outage that impacted businesses at 23 to 25 Burns Bay Road in Lane Cove Plaza and surrounding businesses. The main issue was with the “Bakers Delight” arcade, but to fix it, Ausgrid needed to turn off power to numerous other businesses near it.
The businesses impacted were Chargrill Charlie’s, Guzman Y Gomez, Bakers Delight, Lane Cove Newsagency, Pho Sam, Pure Flowers, The Cake Man, Seven Spices and S’bread House, Unwined, and Barrel One Roasters and Grill’d.
Additionally, Australia Post was also impacted on Friday.
During the outage, Ausgrid advised estimated times for power restoration, which then kept getting extended. There was a moment of hope for the businesses when power came back on late Friday morning, but it was short-lived, and it wasn’t until around 7 pm on Sunday that reliable power was restored.
However, the impact was significant, with food waste, air conditioning not working in some businesses when power was restored, and one cafe having to have its coffee machine fixed after it seized up during the power outage.
Ausgrid advised the outage was due to underground cabling issues. In these situations, it can be hard to pinpoint the exact location of the issue, which then requires crews to gain access underground to rectify the fault.
On Monday, ITC’s Jacky Barker spoke with Joyce Arnold from Baker’s Delight. Watch the video below.
Year Of The Horse Welcomed With Fun-Filled Evening in Lane Cove
On Friday, 20th February 2026, Lane Cove welcomed the Year of the Horse with a colourful display of culture and creativity.

Crowds enjoyed craft activities, the junior Lion Dance by the Ra Ra Baby Lions group and the always thrilling Lion Dance by Pak Hok Kung Fu International, which made its way through the plaza to The Canopy (check out the video below). Following all that activity, there was time to enjoy a free screening of Turning Red at The Canopy.

Calendar Girls Opens
The Lane Cove Theatre Company’s Calendar Girls opened last weekend and the reviews have all been favourable. What’s The Show said:
“The Lane Cove Theatre Company’s production of Calendar Girls was absolutely delightful, where fresh “sunflowery-goodness” shone from the stage via the actors! Although the play has a serious undertone, with one of the character’s husband, John (Darren Gibson) passing away from leukemia, Director, Light and Sound Designer Kathy Petrakis led the company towards showcasing an inspiring story which evolved into a powerful celebration of a group of women. The story highlights their bravery in stepping beyond their comfort zone along with the unbreakable bonds of friendship.”
In the Cove was lucky enough to be invited to see the show and we loved it. It was so nice to go to a live show in Lane Cove and not to worry about having to get into the city and park. See Jacky’s review below.
Calendar Girls is based on a true story about women of a certain age taking off their clothes to pose for a calendar. Without spoiling it, the ladies did show some “flesh” but in an amusing and clever way. As they say in the classics – do yourself a favour and see the show. Ticket details here.

Shirokaya Maslenitsa: Russia’s Festival of Sun and Pancakes
The Canopy came alive on Sunday, 22 February 2026, with Shirokaya Maslenitsa, Russia’s Festival of Sun and Pancakes
Traditionally marking the end of winter and welcoming the warmth of spring, the festival is famous for blini, round pancakes symbolising the sun, enjoyed with both sweet and savoury toppings. The afternoon featured singing, dancing and traditional folk games, creating a lively and colourful atmosphere.
The W.O.W. Project hosted a creative stall where families could make and take home their own artistic version of the whimsical “House on Chicken Legs: the magical dwelling of Baba Yaga, Russia’s most famous folkloric witch. Children loved bringing this traditional character to life through hands-on crafting.

Community Grants
Member for Bennelong Jerome Laxale MP is inviting Bennelong residents (that’s you Lane Cove LGA locals) to play a hands-on role in supporting local volunteers and community organisations.
He is asking locals to apply to be on the Bennelong Grants Community Committee (Grants Committee).
The Grants Committee provides local insight and advice on community grant opportunities administered through Jerome’s electorate office, helping ensure funding reflects the needs and diversity of Bennelong.
The Committee plays an advisory role in reviewing local grant Expressions of Interest and providing recommendations in line with program guidelines.
Jerome said:
“So much of what makes Bennelong special happens because of volunteers, from local sporting clubs and cultural groups to emergency services and community organisations.”
“I’m looking for people who are actively involved in our community and who understand the diverse groups that make up Bennelong. Whether you’re involved in sport, a school P&C, cultural organisations, small business, or local charities, if you care about Bennelong and want to contribute, I encourage you to apply.”
Committee members will be required to review applications in advance of meetings and attend assessment sessions as required. All members must agree to maintain confidentiality and declare any actual or perceived conflicts of interest.
Expressions of Interest close on the 12th of March 2026.

Update On Roll-Out Of Food Waste Bins & Caddies
Lane Cove Council have provided an update on the rollout of the new food waste service.
The Food Waste Collection Starts March 16th 2026.
So far, over 5,000 stand-alone homes across Lane Cove have received their maroon-lidded bins for curbside collection, with the last of the bins being delivered this week.
The kitchen caddies are on their way and will include an information kit with everything you need to be ready for your first collection. You may ask why the kitchen caddies were not delivered at the same time. That is a good question. The caddies are manufactured by a different supplier and the truck that delivers them does not have room for the Maroon
A reminder to ensure your bin is brought onto your property. If you notice a neighbour’s bin left out, maybe check in to see if they are away or pull the bin in for them (Neighbour Day Award nominations are open – see below – so it’s the perfect chance to get some last minute brownie points!).
More details on the program can be found here.

New Tool To Help To Stay Up To Date With Kids’ Vaccinations
Parents are being urged to ensure their children’s vaccinations are up to date amid rising measles cases, with NSW Health launching a new personalised online childhood vaccination schedule.
The free tool allows families to enter their child’s date of birth to generate a customised immunisation timeline, complete with an “add to calendar” feature and reminder alerts to help keep vaccinations on track.
Vaccines in NSW are provided free of charge for serious diseases including measles, whooping cough, polio and chickenpox, with more than 90 per cent of children fully immunised. The Minns Government says the initiative aims to make the process clearer and easier for busy parents, boost on-time vaccination rates and strengthen community protection against preventable diseases.

Crime, Accidents, Incidents
Police, emergency services and incident updates reported in and around Lane Cove.
Fake Traders in Lane Cove
In November 2025, the North Shore Police Area Command posted the information below on Facebook about Fake Tradies.
A roving reporter has told us that a scammer posing as a roof repairman knocked on her door in Lane Cove West and said he could see her roof tiles were broken and that if it rained, the roof would leak. He started to do the “work” and then said it was too hot to continue and that he would be back on Monday, but needed payment for the work he had done so far. He has never returned, but he still has the money.
Late last year, an elderly woman in Greenwich was also scammed by someone offering to fix her gutters.
In both cases, the person just knocked on the door.
Since we posted about this on our Facebook page, a roving reporter told us:
“An Irish guy came by recently and said he noticed a chipped tile on my roof and that he could replace it for a flat fee of $50 that included the tile. I told him to put his leaflet in the letterbox and go, and I’d be in touch if I wanted it done.”
Always ask the tradie for their licence number and tell them you will check it online first.
However, a reputable tradie is never going to knock on the door unsolicited – they are too busy to do that.
Advice from police:
“WARNING: TRADIE SCAMS ACROSS THE NORTH SHORE
North Shore Police Area Command has received reports of dodgy tradespeople targeting local residents, including tree loppers, painters and roofers. These scammers often:
- Knock on doors offering “urgent” work
- Pressure you into quick decisions or cash payments
- Leave jobs unfinished or of poor quality
- Often target the elderly
Protect yourself:
- -Always check licences and insurance
- Get multiple written quotes
- Never pay full amount upfront
- Use trusted tradies you’ve used before or recommended by a trusted friend or family member
- If in doubt, say NO and report suspicious activity
If you’ve been approached or scammed, contact NSW Fair Trading (13 32 20) or your local police station.

Bus Damages Telstra Man Hole Cover
Around 5.00 pm on 24 February 2026, ITC was crossing the pedestrian crossing near the Post Office on Burns Bay Road/Rosenthal Avenue when we noticed that one of the manhole covers had been broken and looked dangerous.
ITC called Telstra to report it (a complicated process), but finally got through. Telstra said they would fix it by 12 pm that night. ITC posted about it on Facebook to warn people to be careful, and Councillor Helena Greenwell immediately contacted Lane Cove Council rangers to ask them to put up a barricade. ITC is pleased to report that it was fixed this morning.
In the interim, an ITC roving reporter told us they saw a bus go up on the curve and run over the pit. From where they were standing across the road, it did not look like there was any damage, but they then saw our post.
Read our article here on how to report something that you see around Lane Cove that could be dangerous or needs fixing.
Can You Help Identify This Woman?
North Shore Police Area Command are seeking assistance from the public to identify a female who may be able to assist with their enquiries into a number of alleged thefts which occurred at various Chemist’s throughout the North Shore in December 2025 and January 2026.
Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the female or have knowledge of the identity of the female depicted to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers online or on 1800 333 000. Information is treated in strict confidence. Reference C103176962.
