Proposed Changes To Pedestrian Crossing Near St Michael’s School

Lane Cove Council has received a request from St Michael’s School to relocate the existing pedestrian crossing on Longueville Road, North of Alpha Road, approximately 44 metres to the north of its current location.

The current arrangement provides limited short-term parking in front of the school, contributing to congestion and queuing on surrounding streets, particularly during afternoon pick-up times.

A pedestrian survey undertaken between 7.30 am and 9 am indicates that approximately 80% of pedestrians approach the crossing from the northern side.

Expected benefits of the change include reduced queuing and increased efficiency during pick upland drop off times.

Have your say by completing the online survey by 24 April 2026. More details and link to survey here.

100 lives saved as GoodSAM responders step up across NSW

NSW Ambulance is celebrating a big milestone, with 100 lives saved thanks to its GoodSAM program, an app that alerts nearby volunteers to step in and help when someone goes into cardiac arrest.

The app works by notifying registered responders when a Triple Zero (000) call reports a suspected cardiac arrest, giving them the option to assist and start CPR while paramedics are on the way.

One of those lives saved is Alan Thomas, who collapsed while driving to the shops. After a bystander called 000, a GoodSAM alert was sent out, prompting off-duty flight nurse Adam Waddington and others nearby to jump in and perform CPR until paramedics arrived. Alan has since made a full recovery and returned home to his family.

NSW Ambulance says more than 13,500 people have already signed up, and you don’t need formal training to get involved—call takers can guide you through CPR over the phone.

The program has also been promoted locally, including at the 2025 Greenwich Games, where attendees were encouraged to sign up and learn how they could help save a life.

Officials say increasing the number of responders can make a critical difference in those first few minutes of an emergency.
