The Achilles Running Club helping to Achieve Life Changing Goals

An ITC Roving Reporter, Megan, told us about a brilliant event that is being held on Saturday 1st April organised by the Achilles Running Club.

What is the Achilles Running Club?

The Achilles Running Club’s mission is to enable people who have a disability to enjoy the health giving benefits of walking and running with volunteers in a supportive social environment.  The partnership creates opportunities to set and achieve life changing goals.

On Saturday, April 1st look out for a sea of yellow as Achilles members and volunteers head to a local Parkrun Australia events throughout Sydney.

What is ParkRun?

Parkrun organise free, weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.

The runs take place in pleasant parkland surroundings and they encourage people of every ability to take part; from walkers or those taking their first steps in running to Olympians; from juniors to those with more experience; they welcome everyone.  The nearest Parkrun to Lane Cove is the Willoughby Parkrun. The event takes place at Artarmon Reserve, Burra Road, Artarmon, on Saturday mornings. See Course page for more details.

What is happening on April 1st?

The Achilles Running Club is encouraging people with a disability to run in a Parkrun. If you are interested in guiding or know someone with a disability that would be keen to get involved in parkrun on a regular basis please pop along to Willoughby Parkrun, 7am start at Burra Reserve, Artarmon. It’s fun, it’s easy and it’s free.

How Do I get involved with the Achilles Running Club?

You can get involved in three ways:

Becoming a Member

Whether you have a  disability or want to volunteer to guide a person who has a  disability, you’re welcome to become a member of the Achilles Running Club.

Volunteer your time

The Achilles Running Club need lots of help to achieve their goals, so whatever skills, resources and/or time you can offer they would love to hear from you.

Make a Donation

Even if you can’t spare any of your time they always need donations to keep the charity working for their athletes so that they can train weekly & participate in great events.

How Do I get involved with Parkrun Willoughby?

All you need to do is register before your first run. You only ever register with Parkrun once.  Once you have registered pop along to Willoughby Parkrun, 7am start at Burra Reserve, Artarmon. It’s fun, it’s easy and it’s free. Park run is run by volunteers who just love running.  After the run, they meet at the Incinerator for coffee.
So if you know anyone with a disability that would like to try running, head along the to the Willoughby ParkRun on Ist April.
