Any visitor to our fair suburb could not fail to see the large number of families ITC. Wander through the plaza on a sunny day, and ‘the green’ is filled with parents and crawling/toddling littlies, chasing bubbles or magpies. After school, the older kids converge on the astro-turf, noshing on finger buns, gelato or Chargrill Charlie’s chips.
Yep, Lane Cove Plaza is a meeting place for families. For those new to the area, head to the plaza, relax with a coffee, and you’re guaranteed to make new friends, if that’s on your agenda.
There are plenty of green spaces around for families to enjoy, in fact the council website says “there are over 50 parks and reserves within the 10 square kilometres of the Lane Cove Municipality”. One of the most popular of these is Blackman Park, located in Lane Cove West, which is home to numerous sport matches, picnic areas, playground, bike track and riverside bushwalks. We also like Longueville Reserve and Tambourine Bay Park, amongst others.
Fancy taking a dip with the kids? Not only do we have the fab Aquatic Leisure Centre, but there is also the picturesque Greenwich Baths – it is a wonderful hidden gem to discover in the warmer months.
Inclement weather – head to Lane Cove Library, which has an excellent kids area, and regular family events, like Possum Play on Wednesdays.
Many of our local cafes and restaurants cater for children, with kids menus and a relaxed, family friendly vibe. One family favourite, located on Lane Cove Plaza, is Lodge Tapas – they have a special deal where kids eat free every day after 5pm! (conditions apply of course). Stain Cafe, in Lane Cove North, is also a popular spot for families, as it has a little playground next to it.
Oh, and in case you have been living under a rock, the Longueville Sporting Club, aka ‘The Diddy’, is the ultimate family friendly venue, offering plenty of room for kids to run and run, with great food and drinks too.
