Lane Cove Council has partnered with Little Blue Dinosaur to raise awareness of child pedestrian fatalities and how you can help prevent them by holding your child’s hands.
Little Blue Dinosaur is a north shore foundation that was founded in the loving memory of Thomas Maxwell Davis McLaughlin.
Tom was a vibrant and loving young boy with a zest for life and an unforgettable smile. Tom had a passion for drawing blue dinosaurs. In 2014 Tom’s family suffered a tragic loss when Tom was involved in a fatal pedestrian road accident. This loss motivated his family to ensure that Tom would never be forgotten by establishing a foundation that solely focuses on child road safety initiatives and education.
Little Blue Dinosaur CEO Michelle McLaughlin works tirelessly to promote the importance of keeping an eye on your little ones, as well as always holding their hand when they cross the road. Children need supervision as they are not able to use sound as a measurement of oncoming traffic and their peripheral vision has not developed.
Lane Cove Council has installed 18 signs throughout Lane Cove reminding parents and carers to hold their little one’s hands. The signs have been installed in the following high traffic playgrounds.

- Cullen Street Playground
- Lane Cove West Tennis Courts Blackman Park
- Hughes Park
- Best Street
- Cox’s Lane
- Turrumburra Playground (the park on the corner of Centennial Avenue and Epping Road)
- Tantallon Oval
- Kullah Parade
- Kimberley Avenue
- Sydney Cowell Reserve
- St Vincent’s Playground
- Carlotta Playground
- Marjorie York Reserve
- Propsting Reserve (park on River Road)
- Kingsford Smith Oval
- Osborne Park
- Charlish Park (the park behind the Lane Cove Bowling Green)

A great initiative by the Lane Cove Council. Are they any other locations where the signs should be installed? It would be great if they were installed near all Lane Cove Schools, kindergartens, and pre-schools.
