Australia’s natural environment and iconic places are in a state of decline and under increasing threat.
The environment is not sufficiently resilient to withstand current, emerging or future threats, including climate change. The environmental trajectory is currently unsustainable. -The Samuel Review of the EPBC Act
When businessman professor Graeme Samuel was invited by the Government to review Australia’s environmental protection scheme, he found Australia’s unique plants and animals to be under obvious and irrefutable attack, with urgent measures needed to protect them.
Graeme Samuel is a businessman, a Professor with Monash Business School and former competition watchdog.
The Samuel Report, published in October 2020, is a comprehensive blueprint for Australian conservation. It calls for new enforceable standards, an oversight body, a compliance regime, inclusion of indigenous Australians and government commitment to ensuring the entire suite of recommendations is taken up and adhered to.
Three years later, what has been done?
Join Kylea Tink for a discussion about this critical issue, with Professor Samuel and University of Queensland environmental policy professor Martine Maron.
