This week In The Cove featured an interesting article on an European trend where local fruit and veggie deliveries are made by retirees on bikes. The aim of the programme is to encourage people to shop locally and reduce their carbon footprint. You can read the article here.
Josh Blake from Renegade Cycles loved the article so much, he offered to deliver products in Lane Cove by bike. With tongue firmly planted in cheek, ITC asked for a coffee delivery at 8.45 am the next morning. Guess What? At 8.45 am, ITC was greeted by a smiling Josh with a cup of coffee (in an insulated container – which just happened to be a stubby holder). Wow, Josh Blake really is a man of his word!!
Why would Josh do this? Renegade Cycles has a clearly stated vision where they would like to see Lane Cove become a community that embraces cycling for all of its health, environmental, lifestyle and transport benefits. Their mission is to encourage people of all ages to take up cycling and to help customers have an active lifestyle and a rewarding and enjoyable sense of community through their cycling experiences.
Josh is very active in the community. He was on the board of Lane Cove Alive and he now is a community represenative on the Lane Cove Council Bike Advisory Committee. He lives locally and his beautiful wife Sarah also works locally (pop in and say hi to her at Zjoosh). Here is how the delivery unfolded:
Josh picked up the coffee from IGA Express (previously known as Agora). IGA Express has a wide range of groceries, fruit and veggies and Grassland Butchers. IGA Express has a coffee bar and New York stylie Deli. They are located next to Stella Bella Home (so shop while you sip). Of course more importantly IGA Express is Renegade Cycles’ next door neighbour.
Step 1: Grab the Coffee
Step 2: Add a Stubby Holder for Insulation
Step 4: Arrive at destination with a smile and coffee in hand. Only one or two drops managed to escape.
This is not the first time ITC has featured Josh!! Read our blog about Renegade Cycles here.
Renegade Cycle has a huge range of cycles (electric and standard) and has a fully equipped repair workshop that will have your bike working like new. I wonder if Mr ITC would like to buy me an electric bike?? (we have purchased all of Miss ITC’s bikes from Renegade)
