Welcome to our Lane Cove Weekly Review for 19 to 25 June 2017.

Charitable Lane Cove

Long time Lane Cove resident and all-round wonderful person, Sigal Kliger, put a call out last week for help with collating Homeless Care Packs for Sydney Homeless Connect 2017. Locals were asked to put together a suggested bag of items (like toiletries, gloves, snacks etc), and drop these off at Go Vita Lane Cove, by Friday 23 June. Sigal then delivered these to Sydney Homeless Connect HQ, ready for distribution at their upcoming annual event.

Sigal said:

A HUUUUGGE thank you to everyone that put together Homeless Care Packs…we delivered 140 packs (2 cars filled to the brim) on Friday, and another 30 packs + 6 fab Pet Care Packs on the Saturday!!!

When the organisers of Sydney Homeless Connect received the Lane Cove care packs from Sigal, they wrote

Wow! You guys are absolutely amazing. I am blown away. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH!!!

So, THANK YOU Lane Cove, you ROCK!

Local mum Isabella is a Board member of Neuroblastoma Australia a charity focussed on raising awareness and funds for Neuroblastoma – which is the leading cause of death of children under 5 from cancer. Isabella wanted to acknowledge the generosity of local business Walkers Party Hire – North Shore – who donated children’s tables and chairs for the recent ‘Run2Cure Neuroblastoma’. The aim of the event – which consists of fun runs and a family fun day – is to raise awareness of, and funds for, Neuroblastoma research. In 2017, Run2Cure raised $170,000 and 80% of this amount will go to Neuroblastoma research projects including projects at Children’s Cancer Institute and Cancer Council NSW.

It is thanks to the generosity of companies like Walkers Party Hire that the event was so successful – so a huge thank you to Lyndall and the team at Walkers. Walkers Party Hire is located in the Lane Cove West Business Park and Mark and Lyndall will help you out when you have a PARTY. They have a huge range of gear to hire.

Well done to Michele Beck and her friends for hosting a very successful Cancer Council Morning Tea. Michele told us the following:

Thank you to so many local businesses for supporting my Biggest Morning Tea fund raiser a couple of weeks ago. 40 of my friends have helped me to raise well over $1,500 for The Cancer Council. That result was very much thanks to a last minute raffle with very generous donations from: Figtree Greengrocer, Hummerston’s Gourmet Meats, Fink’s Chocolate Cafe, Infinity Hair, The Beautician, The Foot Group and ITC herself. Thanks also to Lane Cove Wellness Centre for providing a lucky door prize, and Sydney Theatre Company, Penguin Random House, Janet Donelly, Janelle Hart and Sue Davis for other fabulous prizes. Jackie Cowling was a raffle organiser extra-ordinaire – all in about 2 weeks beforehand! Here are a few pics of the event and some of the lucky prize winners. THANK YOU EVERYONE for supporting research into this insidious disease!

Apartment Garage Break-in – Lane Cove North

A Roving Reporter told us that the garage space at their apartments near the junction of Helen and Burley Streets in Lane Cove North, was broken into. Some items were stolen from residents, including a bike, and cars were broken into as well.

Attempted Home Invasion – Lane Cove North

Just wanted to report an incident that happened on the 14th June. I woke up late and walked into my living room. I heard a noise which I though might be my blinds blowing in the wind. It was however someone trying to force open my kitchen window. In shock I walked right up to him and asked ” are you trying to rob me?” He looked up like a startled rabbit and took off. I live in Lane Cove North in a ground floor apartment. Police were notified.

Car Break-ins Reported during the week:

  • Austin Street, Lane Cove
  • Amalfi Place, Longueville
