The stats for the 2016 Census have recently been released, so of course we checked out the Lane Cove results, and bring you some of the highlights.

In the 2016 Census, there were 36,051 people in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas). Of these 49.2% were male and 50.8% were female. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people made up 0.3% of the population

The median age of people in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas) was 36 years. Children aged 0 – 14 years made up 18.5% of the population and people aged 65 years and over made up 13.7% of the population.

Of people in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas) aged 15 years and over, 52.0% were married and 9.3% were either divorced or separated.

The most common ancestries in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas) were English 22.6%, Australian 18.3%, Irish 9.6%, Chinese 8.3% and Scottish 6.7%.

In Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas), 59.1% of people were born in Australia. The most common countries of birth were England 4.8%, China (excludes SARs and Taiwan) 4.1%, India 2.4%, New Zealand 2.1% and Hong Kong (SAR of China) 1.4%.

The most common responses for religion in Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas) were No Religion, so described 32.0%, Catholic 26.9%, Anglican 13.0%, Not stated 8.4% and Hinduism 3.1%. In Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas), Christianity was the largest religious group reported overall (54.8%).

In Lane Cove (A) (Local Government Areas), 69.1% of people only spoke English at home. Other languages spoken at home included Mandarin 4.7%, Cantonese 3.1%, Spanish 1.3%, Japanese 1.2% and Persian (excluding Dari) 1.2%.
