Lane Cove Early Childhood Health Centre to be Refurbished

Early childhood relocation

You may recall that In the Cove raised the issue that the Lane Cove Early Childhood Centre needed refurbishment.  As the Lane Cove Community Centre was being refurbished it appeared an ideal time to update this essential Lane Cove Service.  You can read about the background here.

In 2017 Lane Cove Council tendered for the refurbishment of the Lane Cove Community Centre building for use by Centrehouse Inc. as a Creative Arts space. During the planning for the refurbishment considerable discussion was had with NSW Health in regard to refurbishing their space within the Community Centre building. The space, in line with the rest of the building had had no renovations since it was built in the late 1980’s. The approved Development Application for the building included refurbishing the Early Childhood Health Centre. Unfortunately NSW Health was unable at that time to commit any funding to the project.

In the Cove asked our local member the Hon Anthony Roberts to become involved.  ITC urged Anthony Roberts to speak to NSW Health about updating the centre.

In late February NSW Health advised that approval had been given to refurbish the Lane Cove Early Childhood Centre.  There will be consulting rooms and access to a large group session room.  The works will be funded by the NSW State Government with the Lane Cove Council project managing the refurbishment.

The partnership between NSW Health and Council will result in a good community outcome with a fully accessible and updated community space. It is anticipated that the building works for all of the building will be completed by mid-May, which will allow for the Early Childhood Health Centre to return to their refurbished area.

Thank you to everyone who supported ITC’s campaign by commenting on our posts.  It is good to see that common sense prevailed.
