The most anticipated store opening in the ten-year history of In the Cove happened today. Harris Farm Markets Lane Cove opened in the old Coles building on Burns Bay Road. ITC can tell you it was worth the wait.
The opening was not without drama, with parts of Lane Cove (including Harris Farm Markets) losing power at about 10.09 am and returning around 11.14 am. Later on in the week Haris Farm also lost water due to the Sydney Water Outage impacting Lane Cove – read more here.
Harris Farm Markets is a market, not a supermarket, and it even felt like a market when the fruit and veg manager called out the specials. Having said that social media influencers and TikTokers are coming to Lane Cove and dubbing the store the fanciest supermarket in Australia.
The Harris Family has a huge connection with Lane Cove. When we spoke to Luke Harris, he told us that he had 20 sets of relatives living in the Lane Cove Council area.
Lane Cove is Harris Farms Markets’ largest Sydney store to date. There is a wall of cheese with more than 500 cheeses!!
The store is not only about convenience but also a destination store due to its fantastic concession partners.
Concession Partners
Rebel Donuts has opened its first Sydney outlet. Rebel Donuts started on the Mornington Pennisula, but the person behind the store grew up in Lane Cove. Ben Swan is the Chief of Donut Operations at Rebel Donuts, and he proudly told ITC that he went to Birrahlee and Lane Cove Public. ITC even met his proud mum – she lived in Lane Cove for 30 years.
The Cook And Baker have opened its first store across the Bridge, and according to some ITC readers, you must taste the Ginger Crunch. Apparently, Ginger Crunch is an oaty base with a bitey yet sweet ginger icing!! They are also recruiting for staff – further details here.
Lane Cove is now home to Gelato Messina’s first-ever retail concept. The majority of their range is exclusive to the Lane Cove store, including six signature grab ’n’ go gelato pints designed to stock in your home freezer and eat straight from the tub: French vanilla, caramel, milk chocolate, berries and cream, cookies and cream, and choc chip.
There is a selection of chilled Bavarian cream pies (choc malt, iced vovo, lemon meringue and tiramisu) and gelato cakes that can be eaten frozen or semifreddo (boysenberry cheesecake and the slab).
Customers can also expect an array of frozen family cookie pies and rolls of cookie dough ready to take home, bake and pretend you made yourself (who would ever do that!!).
There is Messina’s first ever build-a-cookie-pie station offering customisable family pies that are baked fresh on site, where you can choose your own Messina-made dough, fillings and toppings, centred around its single-origin chocolate. Plus, gelato accessories like dulce de leche, choc hazelnut, cone packs, and waffle cone dessert spreads produced in-house at Messina HQ.
If you want smallgoods, then head on over to Salumi Deli. Family-owned, traditional salumi makers, bringing one of the most extensive smallgoods offerings available at a Harris Farm Markets store.
Lane Cove Village now has a fishmonger again – you must visit Fish in the Family, fresh seafood provided by family-owned fishmongers.
But Wait, There’s More

BTW: This is not a sponsored post. After a year of being asked daily – When is Harris Farm Markets Lane Cove Opening? – we knew we had to be there on opening day!! We are also pleased for the retailers along Burns Bay Road, who will now receive more foot traffic – some great stores and cafes along that section. #shoplocal
