Facing Criminal or Traffic Charges? Perin Legal Discuss Options

Gloria Perin is the founder of Perin Legal.  Perin Legal is an ITC Business Supporter.

Perin Legal has extensive experience in criminal and traffic cases.  Gloria told In the Cove over the last couple of months, she has had numerous positive court outcomes for her clients with criminal or traffic law matters.

Attending court is a stressful, time-consuming and expensive process.

Gloria will step you through the court process and explain potential penalties.  She will also give you advice on what a realistic outcome will be.  In some cases, clients may be better off instructing Gloria to plead guilty to a set of amended agreed facts with the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) or Police Facts Sheet. In the end, this may be the most efficient way to finalise a traffic/criminal matter.

Gloria Perin told ITC the following:

“Some clients want their day in court, but having your day in court becomes financially expensive as it involves attending court numerous times, waiting around until your case is called, and numerous meetings with your solicitor.  Sometimes it is better to enter a plea of guilty or look at potentially negotiating a downgraded charge.

My client and I will examine the police fact sheet line by line, distinguishing “fact from fiction”. It is important for the defendant’s voice to be reflected in the fact sheet as to the charges to which they plead guilty to. The police fact sheet is simply the Police’s interpretation of the incident, periodically supported by the observations of various witnesses.

I will then make written submissions to the Police (Representations or Reps), confirming my client’s position and the circumstances in which they would be prepared to enter a plea of guilty. If a self-represented person has already entered a plea of not guilty to a charge, it may be possible to traverse their earlier plea with supporting reps.

No one wants to be involved in a traffic or criminal matter, so it’s important that you take steps to get the best possible outcome with the least stress involved.”

What Services Does Perin Legal Provide?

Children’s Law – Care & Protection and Defence

The Children’s Court of NSW is a special court that deals with cases involving children and young people.

  • The court has jurisdiction to hear and determine cases related to:
  • the care and protection of children and young people aged under 18 years
  • criminal offences involving people who were aged under 18 at the time of the alleged offence
  • traffic cases where the defendant is not old enough to hold a driver’s licence or permit
  • applications for Apprehended Violence Orders where the defendant is aged under 18
  • applications for Compulsory Schooling Orders where a child or young person has not been attending school
  • breaches of parole and the eligibility of children and young people for release on parole.

If your child is involved in a criminal matter, you need someone who knows the system and who will, whatever the situation, spare no effort in securing your child the best possible outcome.

Domestic Violence Applications – ADVO’s & APVO’s

In February, Gloria successfully defended AVO charges against a resident of a nursing home. Her successful representations to the Police, coupled with undeniable evidence, saw the matter dismissed from Court. The client and his daughter were spared from the rigours of a defended hearing and the associated costs for such a day.

Family Law (including Divorce Applications, Property & Parenting, Return of Children Orders)

Gloria has successfully represented Mothers, Fathers and Extended family members in Care and Protection and Family Law Matters.

Recently Gloria successfully acted for a parent in an Urgent Return of Child Order. Within a fortnight of the application having been filed at Court, the Child was safely back in the safe arms of its primary caring parent. Gloria represented the mother without the aid of a Barrister, unlike her opposition. In fact, Gloria is comfortable attends all Interim Hearings unless the circumstances of the case warrant otherwise. Gloria’s confidence rests in her immeasurable preparation for each matter.
