Tradition, Skill, Power and Rowing on Show in the Gold Cup

Gold Cup rowing

The Gold Cup Regatta is on this Saturday 17 February 2023139 at St Ignatius College Riverview. More than 1381 competitors from 25 rowing clubs and boys and girls schools will compete in 52 events at this year’s Gold Cup Regatta, and you are invited to watch.

This is the 139 th year of this famous regatta on the Lane Cove River where rowers navigate the notorious “dogleg” course to compete for a highly coveted “silver oar” and the Gold Cups.

All are welcome to attend this great community event.

Access to the foreshore is via St Ignatius’ College Riverview where there is a wonderful atmosphere, excellent viewing of the course and the finish line. Please see the attached map of St Ignatius College. If you’re unfamiliar with the College, there will be no public access to the Rowing Shed. All spectators are to head down (on foot) to The Wharf which is indicated on the map. By the way, if you have never been to the College, we also recommend having a look at the Rose Garden.

You can also watch a live stream here

So come along and make a day of it. There will be food and drinks (a BBQ and homemade snacks you will love). Go and see the Old Igantians BBQ tent down on the ferry wharf to refuel and support a good cause. The proceeds from events like this go towards funding the College’s Bursary Program, which provides needs-based bursaries to families and boys who would otherwise not be able to afford a Riverview education.

The College grounds will be open to visitors and the event will commence at 8.00am and conclude at 3.30pm.

The College apologise in advance for the expected increase in traffic in the area on the day from 7.00am, but expect this to ease shortly after 3:30pm.

Given the number of anticipated visitors, families are encouraged to leave pets at home where possible.
