Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios June 2023 Exhibition – Reach

In June 2023 Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios will present a new exhibition by the Illawarra Association for the Visual Arts (IAVA).  The exhibition is called Reach and 33 Illawarra artists will be part of the exhibition.  Entry is free to this exhibition, the opening night and the artist’s talk.  The exhibition runs from May 31 – June 24 2023.

Gallery Lane Cove + Creative Studios describe the exhibition as follows:

The exhibition will include a range of mediums, from painting to sculpture, in a variety of techniques and formats.

The IAVA is a diverse collective of artists. It is a not-for-profit organisation focused on cultivating contemporary artists and their work in the region. The IAVA provides members with group exhibitions, social networking and mentoring, to foster and develop their artistic practices.

Reach was born from the artists’ desire to step outside of their respective artistic comfort zones and create new and innovative work. This vibrant exhibition will display a variety of works and explore the concept of reaching into the unknown and exploring new mediums and techniques.

IAVA describes the exhibition as follows:

“While art is always rooted in the soil of its own culture and time, good art can reach further. Whether we’re gazing at ancient drawings on cave walls or a tiny, post-menopausal woman carved from 30,000-year-old limestone, we can sense the artist’s intent: their voice can still speak powerfully.

Artists who are truly engaged with their practice generally avoid staying in any kind of ‘safe zone’. It’s when things lose their familiarity that an artist feels most alive, most capable of anything. There’s a chronic curiosity that pushes things forward. Artists from IAVA (Illawarra Association for the Visual Arts) demonstrate this in the current exhibition reach.

IAVA President (and Archibald Finalist) Melissa Ritchie comments: We’re a diverse group and the conversation between our artworks is always a rewarding one. Some works address the zeitgeist, while other artists have a more traditional expression. There are quiet, contemplative pieces as well as some abstract works with big voices!

This exhibition includes painting, textiles, printmaking, installation and sculpture.”

Panel Discussion

IAVA will hold a Panel Discussion on Sat June 24 at 11 am to discuss ‘Does contemporary art make you dizzy?’

The Archibald prizewinner this year incorporated recycled denim from the artist’s own wardrobe! From totally abstract work to finely described photorealism, it’s all ‘contemporary’. Come and hear what promises to be a lively Panel Discussion.

All welcome to what promises to be a lively discussion by exhibition participants.  Bookings are essential – book here.
