Lane Cove Fun Run 2025 – The Recap

On Sunday, 14 September 2025, around 2,000 runners gathered at Kingsford Smith Oval to take part in the annual Lane Cove Fun Run. The event once again brought the community together, with families, schools, and local clubs joining in both the competitive and fun categories.  The event might be organised by Lane Cove Public School but it is a community event with runners from all schools having a run.

The event is part of the Lane Cove Festival and is supported by the Lane Cove Council.  The Lane Cove Council also assists with the traffic management plan and waste management.

The weather put on a show.  The beautiful sunshine was a significant change from the rain that had been prevalent over the last few months.

The day is all about raising funds for Lane Cove Public School P&C, with the money raised going towards supporting the school with extra teachers and learning support staff.

Ten per cent of the net proceeds is donated to Sydney Community Services.

The amount raised is currently estimated at $50k!

The Lane Cove Fun Run was established in 2015 and was such a success it quickly became an annual tradition. The event is organised entirely by volunteers and is sponsored by local businesses who want to give back to their community.

Prizes are awarded not only for the fastest but also for the best-dressed participants, which adds to the fun and enthusiasm on the day.

The Winner of the 5km race was a local and an Olympian, Georgia Wincup. Georgia represented Australia in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. It was quite a surprise to have an Olympian run in our local fun run!

It Takes More Than a Village….

The Director, Liz Wright, says the Fun Run was a huge success due to the army of volunteers with over 100 roles filled!

“Spring really showed us its best on Sunday, with blue skies and full Sydney sunshine. A big thank you to Mark, Dan and Bryan from Lane Cove Council’s civic services team, who made sure the event went ahead despite the rain and mud.

I’m so proud of our community and what we achieved together. Events like this aren’t easy — from road closures to event infrastructure — but the determination and teamwork shone through.

We couldn’t have done it without our incredible volunteers. With so many families juggling two working parents, finding time to help isn’t easy, and we’re so grateful to those who did.

Thanks also to the residents of Longueville for their patience with road closures. The funds raised will go directly to supporting our public school with resources we otherwise couldn’t provide.”
