Jean Mitchell Baths: Lane Cove Council Staff Recommend No Restoration

After six Council discussions since 2022 on the fate of the Jean Mitchell (Lucretia) Baths at Woodford Bay, it will again be discussed at the February Lane Cove Council Meeting on 18th February 2026.

The agenda papers include a staff report recommending against restoring the tidal pool. Instead, councillors are being asked to vote to remove the structure entirely.

Once a community-built swimming spot and one of the few remaining timber harbourside baths in Sydney, the baths have been closed since February 2023 due to advanced deterioration and safety concerns. Transport for NSW has also directed the removal of unsafe elements.

The agenda papers note that rebuilding is not financially or operationally sustainable due to high construction costs, no available external grant funding, and ongoing maintenance risks that the Council budget can’t support.

The staff report recommends re-wilding the foreshore for passive recreation and sensory benefits, and creating a heritage interpretation project to retain the baths’ cultural story for future generations. Read more here.

On Saturday, 14 February 2026, members of the Indian Women’s T20 Cricket team enjoyed a meal at Seven Spices. The flavours of home must have done the trick as the Indian side defeated the Australian team in a rain-affected match the following day at the SCG.

The visitors must have heard that Seven Spices was awarded an AGFG Chef Hat for 2026. Read more about that here

    Lane Cove In The News

Where Lane Cove has appeared in wider media, including regional and national coverage.

Lynette Bolton Urges  Everyone to Check Their “Bits”

Local TV personality Lynetter Bolton (and wife of former Sydney Swans star Jude Bolton) shared with Channel 7 that she has been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer.  She has been documenting her health battle on her Instagram page and she recently shared her story with Channel Seven:

“But her message goes beyond women and breast cancer.

“Check your bits, check all your bits, because there’s no differentiation. There’s nothing that says you will or you won’t,” Lynette said.

“I found my lump in the shower. It wasn’t an official check, it was just something that I noticed.

“So please check your bits — boys, girls, parents, moles on their faces, let’s just be really proactive about keeping healthy and safe.”

Watch Out For The Speed Bumps – They are Not Pedestrian Crossings

Many Lane Cove residents have wondered why the speed bumps on Longueville Road in the Lane Cove Village look like pedestrian crossings. Lane Cove Council has installed large signs to warn locals it is not a pedestrian crossing.  It seems like the Lane Cove Council LGA is not the only area grappling with this issue.

The Sydney Morning Herald on 16 February 2026 published an article titled Is this Sydney Worst Speed Bump.  The article noted:

“In November last year, Georges River Council installed a speed hump on Belmore Road in Riverwood. But locals began confusing it for a crossing as it’s sandwiched between two bus stops and on the doorstep of several grocery stores.”

    • Put your food waste bin out on your normal bin day for weekly collection
    • All other bin services will remain the same.

    Dorritt Street Pedestrian Crossing

The Lane Cove Council has installed a sign just before the Longueville Road and Dorritt Street intersection, asking motorists to watch out for pedestrians. Over the years In the Cove has been contacted many times by concerned locals about this intersection. In particular they are concerned at night that the lighting makes it very difficult to see pedestrians.

With the start of the school year, this pedestrian crossing is used extensively by local students.

Council has successfully applied for a 2025/2026 Get Kids Active grant to construct a $130,375 Raised Pedestrian Crossing at Dorritt Street. The Lane Cove Council grant application stated that the Dorritt Street raised pedestrian crossing in Lane Cove will improve safety by slowing vehicles and offering a clear crossing, especially for school children.

The development proposes that 10 of these apartments will be for affordable housing.
