Lane Cove Council Area Population Tops 36 996

The  NSW State Government want people to live in high rise apartments.  Despite this policy, many people still want a backyard and a picket fence.  The Australian Bureau of Statistics released their population stats and details on the fast-growing suburbs.  The suburbs seeing significant growth are usually located on the urban fringe.  Lane Cove is the exception.  Lane Cove made the list of fastest-growing suburbs.  Lane Cove’s population increased by 3.1% since the last census and our population is now 36 996.  No wonder Lane Cove’s public transport is not coping.

Lane Cove Council has noted that half of Lane Cove’s population live in apartment buildings and that the number of residents between 0-4 years old and over 65 is high. Lane Cove Council recently released its draft Operational Plan and Budget and is seeking comments on the plan. The plan sets out council’s priorities for the next year and the projects that will undertake.  If you are particularly passionate about an issue in Lane Cove, now is your chance to comment.

It is pleasing to see that one of the Lane Cove Council’s aims is to lobby for extra bus services during peak periods.  In the Council’s 2015 Operational Plan, they were going to lobby for improved bus services between Lane Cove and the City via Mowbray Road, Linley Point and Victoria Road to cater for new residential developments on Burns Bay Road.  Speak to the people who catch the 251 and they would say that not much has happened on that front.

Please take this opportunity to let the Lane Cove Council know you would like them to be more active in relation to public transport options.  There are no signs of Lane Cove’s population growth slowing down and public transport issues must be addressed.  If more people take public transport, this might result in less traffic in the Lane Cove area (another issue that must be addressed).
