The Honourable Dr Meredith Burgmann was radicalised at Sydney University by the Vietnam War and was one of the leaders of the anti-apartheid movement, infamously receiving a two-month jail sentence for disrupting a Springbok rugby match in 1971. She taught industrial relations at Macquarie University for 18 years and was a Labor Member of and President of the Legislative Council of NSW, retiring in 2007. She is the longest serving female presiding officer in Australia. Dr Burgmann will talk about her involvement with ASIO and her recent book about the ASIO files of prominent Australians such as Michael Kirby, Phillip Adams and Anne Summers.
