Women’s Discussion Group

Author, educator and academic, Anne Benjamin, will share her story of living in India in a time of some momentous events. When she married her Indian-born community activist-lawyer husband in 1984, they chose to live in India to continue his work. Her intimate contact with poverty, her frustrations as a ‘foreign wife’ and the challenges of educating poor young women in a society with attitudes that have not changed for many years, have been chronicled in her memoir, Saffron and Silk, An Australian in India. The book was launched by former Foreign Minister and NSW Premier Bob Carr. Anne’s experience enables her to give a genuine insight into life in India from an Australian’s perspective.
