No Fuss Camping is Here Thanks to a Lane Cove Business

Camping sounds like so much fun. You did it when you were a kid and you loved it. You really want to recreate those memories with your kids, but you don’t want to spend heaps on camping gear. A Lane Cove business has the perfect solution. Aiden Frost and his partner are the brains behind Survival Instinct – A Camping Hire Company.

We asked Aiden to tell us all about Survival Instinct.

Why did you start Survival Instinct?

We realised that maintaining and storing camping equipment was becoming difficult with the rise in higher density living, due to the lack of storage space. And that this was making it difficult for people to go camping. So we came up with the idea of developing the ultimate camping kits, to make it easy for people to enjoy camping again.

Why is Survival Instinct Camping Hire Equipment Unique?

Our selling point is the quality of the experience our kits offer. We only use quality gear because it is important to us that people have a great experience. This manifests itself in things like premium, military spec sleeping bags, top of the line inflatable sleeping mats, and best in class cooking equipment like the Coleman Fyreknight stove and GSI Glacier stainless steel pot set. We’ve also taken care of the little things, like salt and pepper, detergent, and insect repellent. We’ve included very spacious tents for comfort, even if the weather isn’t so great. And if that isn’t enough, we’ve included a deck of cards, frisbee, and even Jenga to ensure that everyone can have fun whatever the weather is doing. We’ve also made it easy – we include an Ipad with how to videos we’ve made covering each piece of equipment in the kit so that even first time campers can camp like professionals…

Love the fact you even include Jenga – How did you come up with that idea?

In designing our kits, we really dreamed up the ultimate camping experience. We wanted people to have things to do while camping, and also a bit of a backup if the weather wasn’t too great. Jenga is one of those games that almost anyone can play and has been something we’ve always thrown in the car over the years when getting away. Our kits also include a Frisbee, deck of cards, wireless Bluetooth speaker, powerbank, and solar charger as well to keep you connected – for the ultimate camping experience.

What has the feedback been like?

Feedback so far has been nothing but positive. People love the concept, and those that have used the camping kits have raved about the experience.

Where is a great place to camp that is no further than an hour’s drive from Lane Cove?

Sydney is one of those places where an hour drive can see you less than 20km from home on a bad day, but our two favourite spots that are generally about an hour’s travel are Bonnievale campground in Royal National Park (just south of Sydney), and the Euroka campground which is near Glenbrook at the base of the Blue Mountains. Both are managed by NSW National Parks and Wildlife service and need to be booked via their website, but they have great facilities and you really feel like you are getting away from it all. By the same token though, its only a 5-10 minute drive to civilization if you need supplies, and both places have plenty of beautiful walks and attractions nearby. Read more about Bonnievale here.

What do you like about living in Lane Cove?

The great thing about Lane Cove is that there is a lovely community feel, and there is always something happening, whether it be the lane cove fair or one of the movie nights that regularly run. It is perfect for a young family…

What is your fav thing to do in Lane Cove?

My favourite thing to do in Lane Cove is to explore the tracks and trails that this beautiful leafy suburb offers. Lane Cove area is filled with them and I thoroughly enjoy either running through them or even just taking a walk. In many places, you are surrounded by running water and bushland and it feels like you are in the middle of nowhere despite the fact that you are super close to the city…

We love highlighting home-grown businesses and we thought camping hire kits was a great idea. Mr ITC keeps threatening to pull out his 20-year-old tent and take us camping, we have rejected this idea so far, but if there is state of the art camping equipment on offer, we could rethink the idea.
