Another Passenger Assaulted on Local Bus

In March this year we reported that a 19 year old Strathfield man was assaulted while travelling on board the 252 bus along the Pacific Highway, St Leonards.  Police have now charged a Lane Cove Man for assaulting a passenger on Bus Route 291.

The Police have charged a 43 year old Lane Cove man with assault and affray following what they describe as a violent altercation on a bus travelling along Epping Road, Lane Cove last week.

Around 6:45pm Monday 27th May the Lane Cove man and an acquaintance boarded the 291 bus in Greenwich travelling towards Lane Cove. The Police will allege that during the trip the Lane Cove man made several vulgar and offensive remarks toward female passengers resulting in a male passenger intervening.

It will further be alleged the Lane Cove man punched the male passenger before the pair became engaged in a scuffle. The bus stopped on Epping Road where during the scuffle the men fell from the bus. The victim reboarded the bus while the Lane Cove man continued to yell profanities. He has then allegedly assaulted another male who was jogging by the scene at the time.

An investigation was undertaken by detectives from North Shore Police and on Friday 31st May the Lane Cove man was arrested at Chatswood Police Station. He was charged with 2 counts of assault, affray and using offensive language. He was granted conditional bail to face Hornsby Local Court next month.
