Lane Cove News Week in Review 23 to 30 June 2019

The week started with torrential rain and flooding on the Pacific Highway with one lane closed.  This is the second week in a row the Pacific Highway has flooded in the same area.  Although the weekend mornings started with fog, after the fog lifted, beautiful blue skies were revealed.

    Mowbray Road Black Spot

The slippery roads led to some bingles and some major crashes.  The worst spot was on Mowbray Road with four accidents reported last week.  See below and our cover photo.

This road is jointly serviced by Lane Cove Council and Willoughby City Council.  The two councils need to work together to fix up Mowbray Road. Since Lane Cove Council and Anthony Roberts obtained black spot funding for Penrose/Bridge St slippery corner there have been no reported accidents to ITC in wet weather (which means few call outs for our emergency teams on wet days).

    Cox’s Avenue

Last week a Double B decided to drive down Cox’s Avenue – it did not go well.  It was stuck for hours.  Cox’s Avenue is difficult to navigate at any time.

    Telstra Outage

A number of residents all over the Lane Cove Council area had problem with Telstra services this week.  The Lane Cove Council’s phone lines were down and the only way to contact them was via email.

    Fun Mowbray Public School Fundraiser

It was a fun week at Mowbray Public School. Mowbray P&C had a Colour Explosion (Fun Run) fundraiser! The students ran loops of the school and were squirted with dry, multi-coloured powder at six spots around the grounds. The class which raised the most won the right to spray the Principal with a LOT of pink powder! A LOT of messy fun!

Street Parking Rosenthal Avenue to be removed 1 July 2019 (near Church)

As of Monday 1 July 2019, parking will be removed from the southern end of Rosenthal Avenue outside the Church, opposite the Canopy Project to allow for the new traffic lane alignment. A new centreline will be painted which will maintain two-way traffic as we construct the first stage of the stone wall. These changes will take effect for approximately 6 weeks.

    What are they doing:

    • Delivery  of large stone blocks;
    • Operation of a small crane and construction vehicles

    When:

    • Works will be undertaken on Monday 1 July 2019 for a duration of 6 weeks.
    • Works will take place during the hours of 7:00am to 5:30pm, Saturday 8:00am to
    3:00pm
    • Works will not be undertaken on Sunday or public holidays.

The duration of works may change in the event of inclement weather
or for other unforeseeable circumstances outside of our control.

    What to be aware of:

Parking along the southern end of Rosenthal Avenue (outside the Church) will be removed.
Construction vehicles will enter The Canopy site via the gates off Rosenthal Avenue, where traffic will be regulated by the appropriate implementation of traffic control measures.
Pedestrian access will remain open and managed by traffic control to ensure safe access at all times.
