Welcome to our Lane Cove Week in Review for 9 to 15 October 2017.
Breaking News – Public Transport
The school holidays have finished and the bus queues are back. Today, the NSW Premier announced changes to public transport timetables. Do they go far enough for Lane Cove? We break it down here.
The Premier was quoted as saying “We are giving thousands of customers an early Christmas present this year with more services and better connections between modes to help them get to where they need to go”. Some of you may be disappointed at the size of your Christmas Present.
HSC
Good luck to all those students who start the HSC this week. A thought provoking article was published in the SMH this week on HSC and the stress some students feel. The article quotes local Lane Cove clinical psychologist Elise Lowick (situated in The Village Shopping Centre above Soulful Fitness).
Food Drive
It is Anti Poverty week next week and Sydney Community Services needs your support! As a local community centre, they have been serving the residents of Lane Cove, Ryde and Hunters Hill Local Government Areas (LGA) since 1961. One of the many services they offer is providing disadvantaged people with food parcels. Without the kindness and support of our local communities, they would not be able to continue to run this program as it does not receive funding from the government.
SCS is turning to our local Communities for help. Anti-poverty week is approaching and we are asking for a helping hand from our community from 15th to 21st October. You will find food drop off points at 1 Pottery Lane, Lane Cove and at 46 Gladesville Road, Hunters Hill.
Your support will enable them to continue to serve the most vulnerable members of our community. All donations are welcome. During 2016 /2017 SCS supported 251 people and distributed 265 food parcels. On average, they provide 25 food parcels a month.
Summer Sevens Back with a Vengeance
It was all happening at Blackman Park on Friday night with the start of the Summer Sevens by LCJRU. Even if you don’t play summer sevens pop down on a Friday Night and have some food at the Zjoosh Lawn and some drinks from Porter’s Liquor Northwood! Such a great way to celebrate the start of a weekend in Lane Cove
