Australia Day 2021 in Lane Cove

This year Australia Day falls on a Tuesday.  It’s unAustralian not to love a long weekend so we imagine that there will be quite a few people taking annual leave on Monday 25th January 2021.  All the activities below (unless otherwise stated are on Australia Day 26th January 2021).

Australia Day Lane Cove Shops, Cafes, and Restaurants

Both Woolworths and Coles will be open on Australia Day and the Australia Day Public Holiday.  We will publish a list of coffee shops etc open on the public holiday very soon.

Australia Day Celebrations at Lane Cove Plaza and The Canopy

You can now secure your free tickets to the Australia Day Picnic in Lane Cove.

The Lane Cove Council has put together a special program of local live music at The Lane Cove Plaza and The Canopy followed by two feel-good Aussie movies to round off your day – bring your own picnic rug and get comfy on the green!

This event has a COVID-Safe Plan in place with numbers strictly limited. Tickets are required for each session with a limit of six tickets per booking on a first-come, first-served basis.

Lane Cove Plaza

Phonic Duo, 10:00am – 11:45am

Enjoy the vocal stylings of Lane Cove local Sal Rosen accompanied by Karl Bowles’ expert guitar work. No bookings required but QR code registration is required on arrival.

The Canopy 

Local Bands Session: 10:00am – 11:45am

Cameraygal Wind Symphony: 10:00am – 10:45am

Tambourine Bay Winds: 11:00am – 11:45am

The Cameraygal Wind Symphony is the senior ‘Flagship’ ensemble in the Lane Cove Concert Band while Tambourine Bay Winds are a woodwind ensemble which performs music by Baroque and Classical through to modern and contemporary composers.

Paper Planes (G): 4:00pm – 5:45pm

Paper Planes is an imaginative children’s film about a young Australian boy’s passion for flight and his challenge to compete in the World Paper Plane Championships in Japan. This film is rated G.

The Sapphires (PG): 6:00pm – 7:45pm

The Sapphires is about four Yorta Yorta Indigenous Australian women, Gail (Deborah Mailman), Julie (Jessica Mauboy), Kay (Shari Sebbens) and Cynthia (Miranda Tapsell), who are discovered by a talent scout (Chris O’Dowd), and form a music group named The Sapphires, travelling to Vietnam in 1968 to sing for troops during the war. This film is rated PG.

Sail into Australia Day with the Lane Cove 12 Ft Sailing Club185th Regatta

Due to the current COVID situation in the greater Sydney Region a decision regarding the 185th Australia Day Regatta for sabots has not yet been made.

If you are having a BBQ at home then let the guys at Porters Northwood help you out.  Of course to be really Australian you might want to sink a few Bob Hawke’s Lagers.  If you are having a big shindig If you need to stock up on drinks in advance of the day, Porter’s Liquor also stock a good range of grog, and they will also deliver your order, along with ice and glasses too if required!  Make sure you contact them before Australia Day to arrange delivery.

 

Double Demerit Points

Drive safely its a Double Demerit weekend. Double demerits start on 22 January to 26 January 2021 (inclusive). The double demerit points period applies from midnight of the start date to midnight on the finish date.
